Burraco Rules You Need to Know
Burraco can be played by 2 or 4 players in a regular game or can also appear in tournaments. This is one game that can only be played in 2 teams if 4 players are participating. Every hand will use 2 decks of cards with extra jokers and each deal will feature 2 pots. The player that will first lay down the cards from a given team will be forced to pick up the pot that has been assigned to his team and then continue the game.
Burraco rules state that 2s and Jokers are wild-cards and can replace any other card in the deck. We also have different variations that will not include jokers but in most situations they are used in the game of burraco.
Every single game is to be played in turns. One turn will be started with the pick up of a card from a discard pile or from the present stock. Each turn will end when the player will discard a card. The one player that ends all his cards can then take that pot that was mentioned above. Such a move is important as it gives his team the possibility to score more points. You can take this extra pot in 2 ways. You either discard a card after melding all the others or you do not discard any card and just lay all the cards. In the event that you melded them all then we say that the pot has been picked up while In Flight. It is still necessary to discard one card.
As Burraco is basically a canasta variation, the canasta hand is included in burraco rules. Each canasta needs to have a minimum of 7 cards of the same rank. We also have canasta that are runs of 7 cards minimum. One clean canasta is not to include wild cards and dirty canasta will also feature wild-cards. You can replace wild-cards by using the correct cards that they represent. When doing so you will pick up the wild-card. Burraco rules show the game objective of getting rid of the cards that you hold by forming valid melds. When picking up one card from a discard pile you will be forced to pick up the entire card when no cards to discard are present.
